America can show it has people willing to do equally if not more nasty things than the
Aghoris for less noble reasons… Are there any religious comparisons? The snake
handling Po'buckers with ten teeth between 'em certainly display the ballsy faith of an
Aghori. New Agers are all about self-actualization but lean towards the warm fuzzy clean
methods.
Hippies, Gutterpunks, Ravers, Goths, Geex and Heshers all do drugs and run screaming
from pop culture but lack any particular belief system intent on meeting God.
Occasionally among these subcultures an otherwise spiritually doomed youngster will
inadvertently find him/herself on the left hand path through experimentation with
psychedelics.
As for me, I take what I like from the belief system buffet, and the Aghora bin offers the
idea of "accepting the toxins in and around me" and "It's OK to be one with the one." The
rest of it just sort of happens naturally – I'm a scruffy chronic pothead, I eat at
McDonalds, I smear myself in the ashes of stupid ideas. The hardcore stuff is beyond me
though, I do not raise the dead or retain my semen or shapeshift cuz I'm too busy blowing
shit up on the XBOX, masturbating to online porn and sleeping.
When I read the Aghori trilogy by Robert Svoboda I found myself very jealous and
incompetent. The discipline and will of a true Aghori is unbelievable and the
superpowers that result are awesome. I want to have superpowers too. I'm just not willing
to do what it takes, which is why I'm an American Aghori. In some ways though I've
gone beyond the Aghori in that they are not willing to do what I am in order to meet God
– build a singularity! In the superhero world there is always the genius gadgeteer
superhero whose technological feats are just as bad-ass as the biofreaks. To quantum
phaseshift your biology is the ultimate expression of what the Aghori intends; my tantra
is just patently western.
