Backup and Restore
To Restore a Spotfire Server
Note: To perform a restore of a backup, you must restore to the same OS architecture
the backup is from. If this is not possible, you must reinstall the Spotfire Server using
the installer.
It is recommended that you also restore a Spotfire Server to a machine with the same
IP adddress and hostname as the old one. This will ensure that any network issues,
such as firewall settings etc, will work smoothly after a restore. Overall, you may want
to try to create the restored system as similar as possible to the old one, for similar
reasons.
Below is a step-by-step instruction for restoring Spotfire Server software.
1 Restore the backup of to the same physical path on the
machine as on the old.
2 If running on Windows and starting the Spotfire Server using a Windows Service, run
the script
/tomcat/bin/service.bat install
See the section “For Windows, with Windows Service” on page 48 for more
information about the Windows Service.
3 If running or Solaris, Redhat, or SuSe, and starting the Spotfire Server automatically
after reboot, run the script
/tomcat/install_startup_script.sh
or copy the script tss to the right place. See the section “For Solaris, Red Hat, and
SUSE” on page 49 for more information about this.
If you are using any authentication such as Kerberos or Client Certificates, you may
also have to set up this anew.
10.4 Disaster Recovery
In the event of a disaster, where you have no valid backups available, you should think
of the following:
• Without a valid backup of the Spotfire Database, you will not be available to
restore your Spotfire system to its previous state. You must therefore have a
valid and current backup of your Spotfire Database.
• Without a valid backup of the Spotfire Server(s), you can restore your Spotfire
system to its previous state by installing a new Spotfire Server, adding it to the
cluster (stored in the database), and configuring it anew.
