Advanced Procedures
9 Advanced Procedures
9.1 Overview
This section describes advanced manual procedures for setting up various features
supported by the Spotfire system. Many of the procedures assume prior knowledge
about LDAP directory, Kerberos, Windows Server, Apache httpd, etc. For detailed
information about how these various technologies work and how they are set up,
please refer to the respective documentation for each technology.
9.2 Installing Spotfire Server Silently Using
Pre-defined Parameters
UPGRADING FROM 3.0 or 3.1 TO 3.2?
If you are upgrading from Spotfire Server 3.0 or 3.1 and wish to
preform a silent install, you must run the installation and upgrade
separately. When you record the installation, do not launch the upgrade
tool at the end of the installation.
It is possible to run the Spotfire Server installer silently, using predefined parameters.
This is useful when you wish to install several servers with the same setup.
By running the installer from a command prompt, you can first record the settings you
make in the installer dialogs and save these to a properties file.
You can then run the installer from a command prompt and specify the properties file.
This will cause the installer to execute silently without displaying any dialogs, and it
will use the information specified in the properties file.
You can also edit the properties file in a text editor before you perform a silent install.
Note: Do not attempt to run the Upgrade tool silently, or have a silent install start it.

To record type:
install.exe -r c:\installer.properties
Note: You must specify an absolute path to the file!

To run the installer silently:
install.exe -i silent -f installer.properties
Note: If no path is specified to the properties file, it is assumed it is located in the same
folder as the install.exe.
