2 Installing Spotfire Server 3.2
2.1 Overview
This chapter explains how to install Spotfire Server 3.2. Please perform the following
instructions carefully:
MIGRATING OR UPGRADING?
Important: Before you start the installation process below, make sure
you have backups of the 10.1 or 3.0 or 3.1 server software and
databases. For an explanation of the distinction between migration and
upgrade see the section “Migration and Upgrade” on page 8.
2.2 Prepare the Database
2.2.1 Prerequisites
Before you begin installing Spotfire Server, make sure your database server complies
with the latest system requirements at:

2.2.2 Upgrading from Spotfire Server 3.0 or 3.1
UPGRADING FROM 3.0 OR 3.1 TO 3.2?
If you are running Spotfire Server 3.0 or 3.1, do not run the database
preparation scripts described below. Continue to “Install Spotfire
Server” on page 22 and follow the instructions there. Once you have
the 3.2 server installed, run the Upgrade tool to upgrade your database.
2.2.3 Overview
Before you can run the Spotfire Server installer, you must set up the Spotfire Database
used to manage users and groups, and optionally the Spotfire Demo Database which
contains some demo data and analyses. This is done by running a few scripts.
However, these must first be modified to suit your system.
You can use either an Oracle database server or a Microsoft SQL Server to hold your
Spotfire Server Database. Depending on your choice, please continue to either:
• “Oracle” on page 17
• “Microsoft SQL Server” on page 19.
