Installation Planning
1 Installation Planning
1.1 Overview
TIBCO Spotfire Server provides basic infrastructure, which is used by the TIBCO
Spotfire and TIBCO Spotfire Web Player clients.
TIBCO Spotfire Server has functionality for identifying users and assigning
privileges, serves as a central storage for program updates, is a central repository for
analysis files, and connects to different external data sources.
TIBCO Spotfire Server can be installed on one machine, or be clustered on several
machines, thus providing load balancing and failover support.
1.2 Architectural Overview
Spotfire Server can be installed in two different ways. The simplest way is a one server
solution, illustrated with the following picture:
The Spotfire Server serves requests from clients while communicating with the
database. It may also redirect authentication requests from clients to an authentication
service, if present. Read more about authentication services in the chapter
“Authentication and User Directory” on page 65. The Spotfire database holds
information about its environment and users. Also, users can store analyses in the
databases and share them with others.
