Godwin, University of West Georgia * This paper utilizes historical and cartographic theories to examine the political and psychological consequences of white territorial control on Leslie Marmon Silko’s Ceremony. Massacre at Mountain Meadows: A New Historicist Examination Kyle P. Jennings, Viterbo University * This study looks at one event, two texts, and over 150 years of information regarding one of the most concealed events in the history of the Mormon Church. Using a New Historicist lens, I examine the historical context of the publication of both Juanita Brooks’ 1950 text as well as the more recent treatment by Richard Turley, Ronald Walker, and Glen Leonard, published in 2009. What We Must Do To Be Saved: Navigating the Dynamics of the Self, Nature, and New Industrialization in Mid-19th Century American Literature Amelia A.
