We will explore the learning currents that flow naturally from the experience of students creating
and delivering an online honors newsletter to promote their program and build community. We
will discuss everything from nuts and bolts to the innovative pedagogy and teamwork elicited by
the design and content creation processes.

“I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends”: Strategies for Community-Building in
Honors

A major goal of the Viterbo University Honors Program is to “develop a community of
scholars.” In this session, we will use the term “cohort” to refer to a specific class and the term
“community” to refer to connections between cohorts in the program. As our program continues
to grow, we find it more and more necessary to be deliberate about engaging students in
activities and courses that are directly connected to the honors program.

further the interaction between both faculty and students outside of the classroom.
