Ford continues to work to find affordable solutions to create safer,
more fuel-efficient, quality products that customers desire and value.
Near-, mid- and long-term plans call for Ford to continue delivering
efficiencies leading to fuel economy improvements.
EcoBoost, Ford’s newest generation of smaller-displacement,
turbocharged gas engines, provides fuel savings of as much as
20 percent without sacrificing performance. EcoBoost is just one
reason that by the end of 2012, nine Ford models in the U.S. will deliver
or are anticipated to deliver an EPA-certified 40 mpg highway or higher,
with still more fuel-efficient vehicles on the way.
Also, Ford is using soybeans to develop seat cushion and headrest
foam and researching how to incorporate natural fibers, from hemp
to coconut, to reinforce plastic parts. Research is being done on the
potential uses of a special kind of dandelion as a potential resource
for rubber. And the Focus Electric features seat fabric partly made of
recycled plastic bottles and post-consumer waste.
