Marc Berg is a physician and health scientist. He is currently professor of<br />

Social-Medical Sciences at the Institute of <strong>Health</strong> Policy and <strong>Management</strong>,<br />

Erasmus University Medical Centre, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. His areas of<br />

interest include health information management and quality management. He<br />

has published many articles and books, including Rationalizing Medical Work.<br />

Decision Support Techniques and Medical Practices, 1997, Cambridge: MIT<br />

Press, and, with Stefan Timmermans, The Gold Standard: An Exploration of<br />

Evidence-Based Medicine and Standardization in <strong>Health</strong> Care, 2003,<br />

Cé Bergen is a physician, with a Masters in Business Administration and a<br />

Masters in <strong>Health</strong> Informatics. He worked as a senior-consultant for Price<br />

Waterhouse Coopers for many years, and gained much experience doing<br />

interim management, developing and implementing information strategies and<br />

leading large scale information system replacements. Some years ago, he<br />

started his own consulting agency (Bergen Consulting).<br />

Enrico Coiera is a physician with a PhD in computer science. He is<br />

Foundation Chair in Medical Informatics within the Faculty of Medicine at the<br />

University of New South Wales, Australia. He is also Co-director of the<br />

Centre for <strong>Health</strong> Informatics, and an Adjunct Professor in Computer Science<br />

at the University of New South Wales. He is the author of many publications,<br />

including the widely used Guide to Medical Informatics, the Internet and<br />

Telemedicine, Oxford University Press, 1997 (currently in its 2003 2nd<br />

Edition as Guide to <strong>Health</strong> Informatics).<br />

Heather Heathfield is a computer scientist. She is currently managing director<br />

of IT Perspectives Ltd, a company that provides an extensive range of research<br />

and health informatics consultancy services to its (predominantly UK)<br />

clients. She is also well known for her academic research in decision support<br />

systems, electronic patient records and evaluation of IT in health care.<br />

Bert Huisman holds a Masters in Business Administration/Business<br />

Informatics from the Rotterdam School of <strong>Management</strong>. He has 20 years’<br />

experience in health care IT, primarily with international health care software<br />

companies. Today, he works part-time as a researcher in the Research group
