Larger geometrical effects receive a modified treatment whereby the<br />

basic stress is multiplied by a stress concentration factor K, enabling a<br />

higher endurance curve to be used. The factor K may be found from the<br />

literature, or else by means of a finite element analysis. For a member<br />

containing a large circular hole, we can generally take K=2.4, while at a<br />

radiused change of section (Figure 12.5), K can be read from the curves<br />
