2.3.9 <strong>Design</strong> possibilities with extrusions<br />

A designer has the option of either using an existing section when a<br />

suitable die already exists, or getting a new die cut to produce the<br />

optimum section for the job. Extruders carry a large range of existing<br />

dies for sections of conventional shape, like those shown in Figure 2.9,<br />

<strong>and</strong> many such sections are held by stockists.<br />

When designing a new section it is sensible to combine functional<br />

features with structural strength, thus designing out some of the fabrication.<br />
