Pactor OPERATION<br />

11.6.5 LED Status and Mode Indicators<br />

The front panel LED display provides mode and status information at a<br />

glance. This is especially useful in Pactor operation. The following<br />

describe typical STATUS indications you will see.<br />

Type "PTCONN (CALLSIGN of distant station)”. The STATUS changes to:<br />

STATUS:<br />

MODE:<br />

SEND and PHASE<br />

ARQ<br />

This shows that your transmitter is in the SEND condition, in the<br />

“connect" part of an ARQ connect call. Your transmitter will key on<br />

and off, sending the distant station's connect request. As soon as<br />

your <strong>PK</strong>-<strong>232</strong> is synchronized with the distant station, the STATUS<br />

changes to:<br />

TFC, SEND and CON<br />

ARQ<br />

Verify the link by typing a few times watch the display. Your<br />

traffic will now begin to flow as you type characters. If EAS (Echo As<br />

Sent) is set ON, your typed characters are displayed as they are sent.<br />

The STATUS will change back and forth from IDLE and TFC whenever your<br />

typing pauses.<br />

If errors occur on the link and the distant station sends REQUEST<br />

(request for Repeat), the STATUS will show:<br />

ERROR:<br />

REQUEST:<br />

ERROR and/or RQ (ReQuest)<br />

ARQ<br />

Your <strong>PK</strong>-<strong>232</strong> has detected errors in the signals received<br />

from the distant station<br />

Your <strong>PK</strong>-<strong>232</strong> has received a “request for repeat" code from<br />

the distant station<br />

If the link fails and you lose synchronization with the distant station<br />

the STATUS changes to show:<br />

SEND and PHASE<br />

ARQ<br />

After typing “PTSEND”', to start an unproto transmission, your <strong>PK</strong>-<strong>232</strong><br />

displays the system status:<br />

SEND and IDLE<br />

FEC<br />

As you send your traffic the STATUS will change back and forth from<br />

IDLE to TFC. Whenever you stop typing, the IDLE status is displayed.<br />
