MINING LAWS OF PENNSYLVANIA. ciiiliisor their place of abode, the owner, operator or superintendent ofsuch mine or colliery shall immediately cause such person or personsto be removed to his or their place of abode or to an hospital as thecase may require.Section 4. It is provided, however, that the owner, operator or superintendent of any mine or colliery shall be excepted from the requirementsof an ambulance, as aforesaid, if the places of abode ofallthe workmen at such mine or colliery be within a radius of a halfmile from the principal entrance to such mine.Section 5. It is provided further, that where two or more mines orcollieries are located within one mile of each other, or the ambulanceis located within one mile of each colliery, but one ambulance, a^aforesaid, shall be required, if the said mines or collieries have readyand quick means of communication, one with the oti.er, by telegraphor telephone.Section 6. An ambulance, as aforesaid, shall not be required atany mine or colliery at which less than twenty (20) persons are employed.Section 7. In case the distance from any mine or colliery to theplace of abode of the person injured, is such as to permit his conveyanceto his home or to an hospital more quickly and convenientlyby railway, such mode of conversance shall be permitted, but in suchcase the conveyance must be under cover and the comfort of the injuredperson must be provided for.ARTICLE VIII.Certified Mine Foremen.Section 1. It shall not be lawful, neither shall it be permitted, forany person or persons to act as mine foreman or assistant mine foreman,of any coal mines or colliery, unless they are registered as aholder of a certificate of qualification or service under this act.Section 2,Certificates of qualification to mine foremen and assistantmine foremen shallbe granted by the Secretary of Internal Affairsto every applicant who may be reported by the examiners, ashereinafter provided, as having passed a satisfactory examinationand as having given satisfactory evidence of at least five years' pra
