No. 11, MINING LAWS OF PENNSYLVANIA. cxlvat the rate of three cents per mile for each mile necessarily traveled,and all other necessary expenses connected with the examinationshall be paid by the Commonwealth, Each applicant before beingexamined shall pay the examining board the sum of one dollar, andone dollar additional for each certificate granted, which shall be forthe use of the Commonwealth. The foregoing examination shall beheld annually in each inspection district.ARTICLE XVI.Suspension of Certificates of Mine Foreman and Fire Bosses,Section 1. No person shall act as fire boss in any bituminous coalmines, unless granted a certificate of competency by any one of theseveral examining boards. All applicants applying to any of the examiningboards for fire boss certificates shall undergo an oral examination in the presence of explosive gas, and such certificate shallonly be granted to men of good moral character and of known temperatehabits, and itshall be unlawful for any operator or superintendentto employ any person as fire boss who has not obtained suchctatifirate of competency as required by this act.Section 2.If the mine foreman or fire boss shall neglect his dutiesor has incapacitated himself by drunkenness, or has been incapacitatedby any other cause for the proper performance of said duties,and the same shall be brought to the knowledge of the operator orsuperintendent it shall be the duty of such operator or superintendenttodischarge such delinquent at once and notify the inspectorof the district of such action, whereupon itshall be the duty ofsaid inspector to inform the court of common pleas of the countywho shall issue a citation in the name of the Commonwealth to thesaid operator, superintendent, mine foreman or fire boss to ajjpearat not less than fifteen days' notice upon a day fixed before saidcourt, at which time the court shall proceed to inquire into and investigatethe allegations.If the court finds that the allegations arotrue, it shall notify the examining board of such finding and instructthe said board to withdraw the certificate of such delinquent duringany period of time that said court may deem sufficient, and at theexpiration of such time he shall be entitled to a re-examination.Section 1.ARTICLE XVII.Employment of Boys and Females.No boy under the age of twelve years, or any woman <strong>org</strong>irl of any age, shall be employed or permitted to be in the workingiofany bituminous coal mine for the purpose of employment, or forany other purpose; and no boy under the age of sixteen shall bopermitted to mine or load coal in any room, entry or other workingplace, unless in company with a person over sixteen years of age.K.—11—98If
