He shall, once each week, enter or cause to be entered,plainly, with ink, in said book, a true record of all air measurementsrequired by this act, and such books shall at all times, be kept at themine office for examination by the mine inspector of the district andany other person working in the mines.Section 1.ARTICLE VII.Timber and Other Mine Supplies, Et Cetera.It shall be the duty of the superintendent, on behalf andat the expense of the operator to keep on hand at the mines at alltimes, a full supply of all materials and supplies required to preservethe health and safety of the employes as ordered by the mine foremanand required by this act. He shall at least once a week, examineand countersign—(which countersignature of the superintendent shallbf;held, under this act to have no further bearing than the evidenceof the fact that the mine superintendent has read the matter enteredon the book)—all reports entered in the mine record book, and ifhe finds that the law is being violated in any particular, he shallorder the mine foreman to comply with its provisions forthwith.If from any cause he cannot procure the necessary supplies or materialsas aforesaid, he shall notify the mine foreman, whose duty itshall be to withdraw the men from the mine or part of mine untilsuch supplies or materials are received.Section 2. The superintendent of the mine shall not obstruct themine foreman or other officials in their fulfillment of any of theduties required by this act. At mines where superintendents are notemployed, the duties that are herein prescribed for the superintendentshalldevolve upon the mine foreman.ARTICLE VIII.Steam Boilers, Stables, Regulations for the Use of Oil, Powder, EtCetera.Section 1. After the passage of this act it shall be unlawful toplace a main or principal ventilating fan shed inside of any bituminouscoal mine wherein explosive gas has been detected or in which theair current is contaminated with coal dust. No stationery steamboiler shall be placed in any bituminous coal mine, unless said steamboiler be placed within fifty feet from the bottom of an up-cast shaft,which shaft shall not be less than twenty-five square feet in area,and after May thirtieth, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five,no stationary steam boiler shall be permitted to remain in any bituminouscoal mine, only as aforesaid.Section 2. It shall not be lawful after the passage of this act toprovide any horse or mule stables inside of bituminous coal mines,unless said stables are excavated in the solid strata or coal seams, and
