If an}' person or persons shall f<strong>org</strong>e or counterfeit a certificateor knowingly make or cause to be made any false statementin any certificate under this act, or in any official copy of the same, orshall urge others to do so,or shall utter or use any such f<strong>org</strong>ed orfalse certificate, or unofficial copy thereof, or shall make, give, utter,produce or make use of any false declaration, representation or statementin any such certificate or copy thereof, or any document containingthe same, he or they shall be guilty o.f a misdemeanor, andupon conviction thereof, shall be fined two hundred dollars, or imprisonedfor a term not exceeding one (1) year, or both, at the discretionof the court trying the case.Section 9. And no person shall be permitted to act as fire boss inany coal mine or colliery, except he has had five (5) years' practicalexperience in mines as a miner, three (3) of which he shall have as aminer wherein noxious and explosive gases are evolved, and the saidfire boss shall certify to the same before entering upon his duties,before an alderman, justice of the peace or other person authorizedto administer oaths, and a copy of said deposition shall be filed withthe district inspector of mines wherein said person isARTICLE IX.Employment of Boys and Females.employed.Section 1, No boy under the age of fourteen (14) years, and no womanor girl of any age, shall be employed or permitted to be in anymine for the purpose of employment therein. Nor shall a boy underthe age of twelve years or a woman or girl of any age, be employedor permitted to be in or about the outside structures or w^orkings ofJi colliery for the purpose of employment, but it is provided, however,that this prohibition shall not affect the employment of a boyor female of suitable age in an office or in the performance of clericalwork at a colliery.Section 2. When an employer is in doubt as to the age of any boyor youth applying for employment inor about a mine or colliery, heshall demand and receive proof of the said lawful employment age ofsuch boy or youth, by certificate from the parent or guardian, beforesaid boy or youth shall be employed.Section 3. If any person or persons contravene or fail to complywith the provisions of this act in respect to the employment of boys,young male persons or females, or if he or they shall connive with orfiermit others to contravene or fail to comply with said provisions,or ifa parent or guardian of a boy or young male person make <strong>org</strong>ive a false certificate of the age of such boy or young male person,or knowingly do or perform any other act for the purpose of secur-
