Doc.Section 5.The mine foreman shall measure the air current at leastonce a week at the Inlet and outlet and at or near the faces of theentries, and shall keep a record of such measurements. An anemometershall be provided for this purpose by the operator of themine. It shall be the further duty of the mine foreman to requirethe workmen touse locked safety lamps when and where requiredby this act.Section 6. The mine foreman shall give prompt attention to the removalof all dangers reported to him by the fire boss or an}^ otherperson working in the mine, and in mines where a fire boss is notemployed, the said mine foreman or his assistant shall visit and examineevery working place therein at least once every alternate daywhile the miners of such place are or should be at work, and shalldirect that each and every working place be properly secured byprops or timbers, and that no person shall be directed or permittedto work in an unsafe place unless it be for the purpose of making itsafe: Provided, That if the owner or operator of any mine employinga fire boss shall require the mine foreman to examine every workingplace every alternate day, then it shall be the duty of the mine foremanto do so.Section 7. When the mine foreman is unable personally to carryout all the requirements of this act as pertaining to his duties, heshall employ a competent person or persons, not objectionable to theoperator, to act as his assistant or assistants, who shall act underhis instructions, and in all mines where fire-damp is generated thesaid assistant or assitants shall possess a certificate of competencyas mine foreman or .fire boss.Section 8. A suitable record book, with printed head lines, preparedby and approved by the mine inspector, the same to be providedat the expense of the Commonwealth, shall be kept at eachmine generating explosive gases, and immediately after each examinationof the mine made by the fire boss or fire bosses, a recordof the same shall be entered in said book, signed by the person orpersons making such examinations, which shall clearly state the natureand location of an}' danger which he or they may have discovered,and the fire boss or fire bosses shall immediately report suchdanger and the location of the same to the mine foreman, whoseduty it shall be to remove the danger, ^r to cause the same to be doneforthwith as far as practicable, and the mine foreman shall also eachdsy countersign all reports entered by the fire boss or fire bosses. Atall mines the mine foreman shall enter in a book provided as aboveby the mine inspector, a report of the condition of the mine, signedby himself, which shall clearly state any danger that may have comeunder his observation during the day, and shall also state whetherhe has a proper supply of material on hand for the safe working ofthe mine, and whether all requirements of the law are strictly com-
