Mine foreman, John C.Dovey.Loyalhanna Nos. 1 and 2 Shafts.—Has been foundi in very faircondition during the year, both in regard to ventilation and drainage.On my last visit I measured 69,300 cubic feet of air per minutepassing in at the inlet, which was fairly well distributed aroundthe workings. These mines are connected, and the one fan producesthe ventilation for both. The tail rope ^system of haulage isin use in No. 1 mine. Mine foreman, E. W. Altman.l*andora Shaft.—Very little work has been done at this mineduring the year, but when last inspected it was in fair condition.Mine foreman, Enoch Rowley.Derry Shaft.—Was found in very favorable condition when lastinspected), I measured 68,000 cubic feet of air per minute passingin at the inlet, which was very well distributed to the workings.The electric system of haulage is in operation. Mine foreman, John Baker.St. Clair Slope.—On my last visit to this mine there was 24,990cubic feet of air per minute passing through the furnace shaft, andthe quantities of air as measured at and near the face of the differententries ranged from 4,680 to 7,560 cubic feet per minute. The haulageis by the tail rope system. Mine foreman, Richard Meagher.Millwood Shaft.—The condition of this mine is fairly good bothin regard to ventilation and drainage. The wooden cage& whichhad been in use have been replaced by new ones built of steel, whichare giving great satisfaction. Mine foreman, Thomas Thomas.Lockport Drift.—This is a small operation in the Lower Freeportseam of coal, employing nine persons inside when last visited. Theworkings were in fair condition. Ge<strong>org</strong>e H. Richards was in chargeof the mine.Export Drift.—Located at the terminus of the Turtle Creek branchof the Pennsylvania Railroad. The condition of this mine was favorablewhen last inspected. The ventilation is by a 10-foot modifiedGuibal fan, which i)roduced 58,800 cubic feet of air per minute, whichwas very well distributed around the workings. The endless ropesystem of haulage is used. Mine foreman, Ge<strong>org</strong>e Carroll.Mines on and Near the Youghiogheny Railroad, which runs fromIrwin on the Pennsylvania Railroad to Sewickley, on the Baltimoreand Ohio Railroad.Penn Gas No. 2 Shaft.—This mine was found in fairly good conditionon each visit during the year.
