THIRD ALL-RUSSIA CONGRESS OF SOVIETS481tion and I am profoundly convinced that more and morediverse federations of free nations will group themselvesaround revolutionary Russia. This federation is invincibleand will grow quite freely, without the help of lies or bayonets. The laws and the state system which we are creatingover here are the best earnest of its invincibility. You havejust heard a reading of the law on the socialisation ofland. 167 Isn’t it a pledge of the unbreakable unity of theworkers and peasants, isn’t it a guarantee that in this unitywe shall be able to overcome all obstacles on the way tosocialism?I must tell you that these obstacles are tremendous. You can depend on the bourgeoisie to resort to every trick,to stake their all on crushing our unity. They can be expectedto make use of liars, provocateurs, traitors, possibly, dupes, but henceforth we have nothing to fear, because wehave established our own new state power and because wehold the reins of government. We shall throw the full weightof our power against any counter-revolutionary attempt. But the chief pillar of the new system is the organisationalmeasures we shall be implementing for the sake of socialism. In this respect we are faced with a vast amount ofwork. They have left us an onerous legacy, the work torestore what they had destroyed.Of course, the working people had no experience in governmentbut that does not scare us. The victorious proletariatlooks out on a land that has now become a publicgood, and it will be quite able to organise the new productionand consumption on socialist lines. In the old days, humangenius, the brain of man, created only to give some thebenefits of technology and culture, and to deprive others ofthe bare necessities, education and development. From nowon all the marvels of science and the gains of culture belongto the nation as a whole, and never again will man’s brainand human genius be used for oppression and exploitation.Of this we are sure, so shall we not dedicate ourselves andwork with abandon to fulfil this greatest of all historicaltasks? The working people will perform this titanic historical
