There is completecalm in Petrograd and Moscow. No socialists have beenarrested. Kiev is in the hands of the Ukrainian Soviet authorities.The Kiev bourgeois Rada has fallen and dispersed.The authority of the llkrainian Soviet~ Kharkov has beenfully recognised. On the Don, 46 Cossack regiments haverevolted against Kaledin. Orenburg has been taken by theSoviet authorities and the Cossack ataman, Dutov, has beenrouted and is in flight. In Finland, the victory of the Finnishworkers’ government is being rapidly consolidated, thecounter-revolutionary whiteguard troops have been pushedback to the North, and the workers’ victory over them iscertain.There has been an improvement in the food situation inPetrograd. Today, January 22, 1918, old style, Petrogradworkers are sending 10 carloads of food to aid the Finns.Information about Germany is very scarce. The Germansare clearly concealing the truth about the revolutionarymovement in Germany. Trotsky has telegraphed to Petrogradfrom Brest-Litovsk that the Germans are dragging outthe talks.
