Kiev is in the hands <strong>of</strong> the Ukrainian Soviet authorities.The Kiev bourgeois Rada has fallen and dispersed.The authority <strong>of</strong> the llkrainian Soviet~ Kharkov has beenfully recognised. On the Don, 46 Cossack regiments haverevolted against Kaledin. Orenburg has been taken by theSoviet authorities and the Cossack ataman, Du<strong>to</strong>v, has beenrouted and is in flight. In Finland, the vic<strong>to</strong>ry <strong>of</strong> the Finnishworkers’ government is being rapidly consolidated, thecounter-revolutionary whiteguard troops have been pushedback <strong>to</strong> the North, and the workers’ vic<strong>to</strong>ry over them iscertain.There has been an improvement in the food situation inPetrograd. Today, January 22, 1918, old style, Petrogradworkers are sending 10 carloads <strong>of</strong> food <strong>to</strong> aid the Finns.Information about Germany is very scarce. The Germansare clearly concealing the truth about the revolutionarymovement in Germany. Trotsky has telegraphed <strong>to</strong> Petrogradfrom Brest-Li<strong>to</strong>vsk that the Germans are dragging outthe talks.
