Run<strong>of</strong>f Treatment Control Measure Fact SheetWater <strong>Quality</strong> Detention Basins• Following the production <strong>of</strong> the nodes (2-5 days), plant the pole cuttings in a rich organicmedium mixed with native soil to encourage the production <strong>of</strong> a fibrous root system.• Place pole cuttings in a hole approximately 3 feet deep (as determined by the length <strong>of</strong> thecutting--generally 75 percent <strong>of</strong> the length <strong>of</strong> the cutting should be planted beneath the soilsurface). Backfill with native soil, or a rich organic medium mixed with native soil. Tamp downthe soil to remove air pockets and assure soil contact with the cutting.Seeds. Follow these guidelines when seeding:• Plant seeds in the fall, preferably during the early portion <strong>of</strong> the dormant season. Time seeding tooccur after plugs, container stock and pole cuttings are installed.• Scarify the soil surface with a rake prior to seeding, taking care not to damage previously plantedvegetation.• Plant seeds at the ratios and rates specified by the supplier. The certified germination percentageshould be provided by the supplier. Use seeds free <strong>of</strong> weeds and diseases.• Broadcast seeds over the scarified planting area, using a hand-held spreader.
