chemical and mechanical treatment had a large diameter distribution with similar FTIR and
WAXD characteristics as found in literature. Partial removal of hemicellulose and lignin was
evident throughout the process as observed via FTIR and SEM analysis. Crystallinity of the bulk
fraction lowered through each successive step suggesting the process may be too harsh on the
sampled soy fibers obtained. The individualization for highly crystalline nanofibers would benefit
from optimization of both the chemical and mechanical treatments. Size separation processes
could also be employed to concentrate nanofibers present within the bulk fibers obtained.
