Chapter 4: Using EMCMD with SteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong>Chapter 4: Using EMCMD with SteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong>The EMCMD utility that ships with SteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong> provides users with a command line method tomanipulate the mirror. Because these scripts run in situations where the "normal" validation rules may notapply, EMCMD does not per<strong>for</strong>m the same kinds of sanity checks that the user would experience using theSteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong> User Interface. EMCMD simply passes commands to the SteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong>Replication service allowing the service to make any decisions. It is this lack of checks that also makes this auseful diagnostic and support tool - though it is potentially dangerous <strong>for</strong> someone not very experienced withthe inner workings of SteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong>.The following sections detail the operation of the EMCMD SteelEye <strong>DataKeeper</strong> Command Line. You mustbe in the EM directory or the directory must be in your path to issue these commands.Note: The following style conventions will be utilized throughout.Use the system's NetBIOS name, IP address or fully qualified domain name to attach to agiven system. You can also use a period (.) to attach to the local system where emcmd is beingexecuted.Refers to the drive letter that is being referenced. EMCMD parses out everything after the firstcharacter, there<strong>for</strong>e, any ":" (colon) would be extraneous.Mirror State DefinitionsThe following numbers are used by the system to internally describe the various states. They are used byEMCMD, and they are also the state numbers found in event log entries.-1: Invalid State0: No Mirror1: Mirroring2: Mirror is resyncing3: Mirror is broken4: Mirror is paused5: Resync is pendingBREAKMIRROREMCMD BREAKMIRROR []This command <strong>for</strong>ces the mirror into a Broken state. Breaking the mirror will cause a full resync to occurwhen the mirror is continued or resynced.
