And it gives <strong>the</strong> high promise that thisknowledge, not limiting, not intellectual, but pure and spiritual,— for <strong>the</strong> form and nature, if we can use such language, of thistranscendental Being, his svarūpa, are necessarily unthinkableby <strong>the</strong> mind, acintyarūpa, — liberates mortal man from all c<strong>on</strong>fusi<strong>on</strong>of ignorance and from all b<strong>on</strong>dage of sin, suffering andevil, yo vetti asammūḍhaḥ sa martyeṣu sarva-pāpaiḥ pramucyate.The human soul that can dwell in <strong>the</strong> light of this supremespiritual knowledge is lifted by it bey<strong>on</strong>d <strong>the</strong> ideative or sensibleformulati<strong>on</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> universe. It rises into <strong>the</strong> ineffable powerof an all-exceeding, yet all-fulfilling identity, <strong>the</strong> same bey<strong>on</strong>dand here. This spiritual experience of <strong>the</strong> transcendental Infinitebreaks down <strong>the</strong> limitati<strong>on</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> pan<strong>the</strong>istic c<strong>on</strong>cepti<strong>on</strong> ofexistence. The infinite of a cosmic m<strong>on</strong>ism which makes Godand <strong>the</strong> universe <strong>on</strong>e, tries to impris<strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> Divine in his worldmanifestati<strong>on</strong> and leaves us that as our sole possible means ofknowing him; but this experience liberates us into <strong>the</strong> timelessand spaceless Eternal. “Nei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong> Gods nor <strong>the</strong> Titans knowthy manifestati<strong>on</strong>” cries Arjuna in his reply: <strong>the</strong> whole universeor even numberless universes cannot manifest him, cannot c<strong>on</strong>tainhis ineffable light and infinite greatness. All o<strong>the</strong>r lesserGod-knowledge has its truth <strong>on</strong>ly by dependence <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> everunmanifested and ineffable reality of <strong>the</strong> transcendent Godhead.But at <strong>the</strong> same time <strong>the</strong> divine Transcendence is not a negati<strong>on</strong>,nor is it an Absolute empty of all relati<strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> universe. Itis a supreme positive, it is an absolute of all absolutes. All cosmicrelati<strong>on</strong>s derive from this Supreme; all cosmic existences returnto it and find in it al<strong>on</strong>e <strong>the</strong>ir true and immeasurable existence.“For I am altoge<strong>the</strong>r and in every way <strong>the</strong> origin of <strong>the</strong> godsand <strong>the</strong> great Rishis.” The gods are <strong>the</strong> great undying Powersand immortal Pers<strong>on</strong>alities who c<strong>on</strong>sciously inform, c<strong>on</strong>stitute,preside over <strong>the</strong> subjective and objective forces of <strong>the</strong> cosmos.The gods are spiritual forms of <strong>the</strong> eternal and original Deitywho descend from him into <strong>the</strong> many processes of <strong>the</strong> world.Multitudinous, universal, <strong>the</strong> gods weave out of <strong>the</strong> primaryprinciples of being and its thousand complexities <strong>the</strong> whole web
