He is <strong>the</strong>unborn and <strong>the</strong> all-pervading Master of his own innumerablebecomings in <strong>the</strong> universe, ajo vibhuḥ; all things are his powersand effectuati<strong>on</strong>s in his self-Nature, vibhutis. He is <strong>the</strong> originof all <strong>the</strong>y are, <strong>the</strong>ir beginning; he is <strong>the</strong>ir support in <strong>the</strong>ir everchangingstatus, <strong>the</strong>ir middle; he is <strong>the</strong>ir end too, <strong>the</strong> culminati<strong>on</strong>or <strong>the</strong> disintegrati<strong>on</strong> of each created thing in its cessati<strong>on</strong> or itsdisappearance. He brings <strong>the</strong>m out from his c<strong>on</strong>sciousness andis hidden in <strong>the</strong>m, he withdraws <strong>the</strong>m into his c<strong>on</strong>sciousnessand <strong>the</strong>y are hidden in him for a time or for ever. What isapparent to us is <strong>on</strong>ly a power of becoming of <strong>the</strong> One: whatdisappears from our sense and visi<strong>on</strong> is effect of that power ofbecoming of <strong>the</strong> One. All classes, genera, species, individualsare such vibhutis. But since it is through power in his becomingthat he is apparent to us, he is especially apparent in whateveris of a pre-eminent value or seems to act with a powerful andpre-eminent force. And <strong>the</strong>refore in each kind of being we cansee him most in those in whom <strong>the</strong> power of nature of thatkind reaches its highest, its leading, its most effectively selfrevealingmanifestati<strong>on</strong>. These are in a special sense Vibhutis.Yet <strong>the</strong> highest power and manifestati<strong>on</strong> is <strong>on</strong>ly a very partialrevelati<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Infinite; even <strong>the</strong> whole universe is informedby <strong>on</strong>ly <strong>on</strong>e degree of his greatness, illumined by <strong>on</strong>e ray of hissplendour, glorious with a faint hint of his delight and beauty.This is in sum <strong>the</strong> gist of <strong>the</strong> enumerati<strong>on</strong>, <strong>the</strong> result we carryaway from it, <strong>the</strong> heart of its meaning.God is imperishable, beginningless, unending Time; this ishis most evident Power of becoming and <strong>the</strong> essence of <strong>the</strong>whole universal movement. Aham eva akṣayaḥ kālaḥ. Inthatmovement of Time and Becoming God appears to our c<strong>on</strong>cepti<strong>on</strong>or experience of him by <strong>the</strong> evidence of his works as<strong>the</strong> divine Power who ordains and sets all things in <strong>the</strong>ir placein <strong>the</strong> movement. In his form of Space it is he who fr<strong>on</strong>ts us
