The chapter has been called <strong>the</strong>Vibhuti-Yoga, — an indispensable yoga. For while we must identifyourselves impartially with <strong>the</strong> universal divine Becoming inall its extensi<strong>on</strong>, its good and evil, perfecti<strong>on</strong> and imperfecti<strong>on</strong>,light and darkness, we must at <strong>the</strong> same time realise that <strong>the</strong>re isan ascending evoluti<strong>on</strong>ary power in it, an increasing intensity ofits revelati<strong>on</strong> in things, a hierarchic secret something that carriesus upward from <strong>the</strong> first c<strong>on</strong>cealing appearances through higherand higher forms towards <strong>the</strong> large ideal nature of <strong>the</strong> universalGodhead.This summary enumerati<strong>on</strong> begins with a statement of <strong>the</strong>primal principle that underlies all <strong>the</strong> power of this manifestati<strong>on</strong>in <strong>the</strong> universe. It is this that in every being and object Goddwells c<strong>on</strong>cealed and discoverable; he is housed as in a crypt in<strong>the</strong> mind and heart of every thing and creature, an inner self in<strong>the</strong> core of its subjective and its objective becoming, <strong>on</strong>e whois <strong>the</strong> beginning and middle and end of all that is, has been orwill be. For it is this inner divine Self hidden from <strong>the</strong> mindand heart which he inhabits, this luminous Inhabitant c<strong>on</strong>cealedfrom <strong>the</strong> view of <strong>the</strong> soul in Nature which he has put forthinto Nature as his representative, who is all <strong>the</strong> time evolving<strong>the</strong> mutati<strong>on</strong>s of our pers<strong>on</strong>ality in Time and our sensati<strong>on</strong>alexistence in Space, — Time and Space that are <strong>the</strong> c<strong>on</strong>ceptualmovement and extensi<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> Godhead in us. All is this selfseeingSoul, this self-representing Spirit. For ever from withinall beings, from within all c<strong>on</strong>scient and inc<strong>on</strong>scient existences,this All-c<strong>on</strong>scient develops his manifested self in quality andpower, develops it in <strong>the</strong> forms of objects, in <strong>the</strong> instrumentsof our subjectivity, in knowledge and word and thinking, in <strong>the</strong>creati<strong>on</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> mind and in <strong>the</strong> passi<strong>on</strong> and acti<strong>on</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> doer,in <strong>the</strong> measures of Time, in cosmic powers and godheads and in<strong>the</strong> forces of Nature, in plant life, in animal life, in human andsuperhuman beings.If we look at things with this eye of visi<strong>on</strong> unblinded by
