There will be needed an upliftingof <strong>the</strong> heart in a single aspirati<strong>on</strong> to <strong>the</strong> Highest, a single loveof <strong>the</strong> Divine Being, a single God-adorati<strong>on</strong>. And <strong>the</strong>re must bea widening too of <strong>the</strong> calmed and enlightened heart to embraceGod in all beings. There will be needed a change of <strong>the</strong> habitualand normal nature of man as he is now to a supreme and divinespiritual nature. There will be needed in a word a Yoga whichshall be at <strong>on</strong>ce a Yoga of integral knowledge, a Yoga of <strong>the</strong> integralwill and its works, a Yoga of integral love, adorati<strong>on</strong> and devoti<strong>on</strong>and a Yoga of an integral spiritual perfecti<strong>on</strong> of <strong>the</strong> wholebeing and of all its parts and states and powers and moti<strong>on</strong>s.“What <strong>the</strong>n is this knowledge that will have to be admittedby <strong>the</strong> understanding, supported by <strong>the</strong> soul’s faith and madereal and living to <strong>the</strong> mind, heart and life? It is <strong>the</strong> knowledgeof <strong>the</strong> supreme Soul and Spirit in its <strong>on</strong>eness and its wholeness.It is <strong>the</strong> knowledge of One who is for ever, bey<strong>on</strong>d Timeand Space and name and form and world, high bey<strong>on</strong>d hisown pers<strong>on</strong>al and impers<strong>on</strong>al levels and yet from whom allthis proceeds, One whom all manifests in manifold Natureand her multitude of figures. It is <strong>the</strong> knowledge of him as animpers<strong>on</strong>al eternal immutable Spirit, <strong>the</strong> calm and limitless thingwe call Self, infinite, equal and always <strong>the</strong> same, unaffected andunmodified and unchanged amid all this c<strong>on</strong>stant changing andall this multitude of individual pers<strong>on</strong>alities and soul powersand Nature powers and <strong>the</strong> forms and forces and eventualitiesof this transitory and apparent existence. It is <strong>the</strong> knowledgeof him at <strong>the</strong> same time as <strong>the</strong> Spirit and Power who seemsever mutable in Nature, <strong>the</strong> Inhabitant who shapes himself toevery form and modifies himself to every grade and degree andactivity of his power, <strong>the</strong> Spirit who, becoming all that is evenwhile he is for ever infinitely more than all that is, dwells in manand animal and thing, subject and object, soul and mind and lifeand matter, every existence and every force and every creature.“It is not by insisting <strong>on</strong> this or that side <strong>on</strong>ly of <strong>the</strong> truth thatyou can practise this Yoga. The Divine whom you have to seek,<strong>the</strong> Self whom you have to discover, <strong>the</strong> supreme Soul of whom
