406 <str<strong>on</strong>g>Essays</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>on</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gita</strong>of <strong>the</strong> mental, vital and physical nature. The immortal Dharmais <strong>on</strong>e; it is that of <strong>the</strong> highest spiritual divine c<strong>on</strong>sciousnessand its powers, parā prakṛtiḥ. It is bey<strong>on</strong>d <strong>the</strong> three gunas,and to reach it all <strong>the</strong>se lower dharmas have to be aband<strong>on</strong>ed,sarva-dharmān parityajya. Al<strong>on</strong>e in <strong>the</strong>ir place <strong>the</strong> <strong>on</strong>e liberatingunifying c<strong>on</strong>sciousness and power of <strong>the</strong> Eternal has to become<strong>the</strong> infinite source of our acti<strong>on</strong>, its mould, determinant andexemplar. To rise out of our lower pers<strong>on</strong>al egoism, to enterinto <strong>the</strong> impers<strong>on</strong>al and equal calm of <strong>the</strong> immutable eternalall-pervading Akshara Purusha, to aspire from that calm by aperfect self-surrender of all <strong>on</strong>e’s nature and existence to thatwhich is o<strong>the</strong>r and higher than <strong>the</strong> Akshara, is <strong>the</strong> first necessityof this Yoga. In <strong>the</strong> strength of that aspirati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong>e can rise to <strong>the</strong>immortal Dharma. There, made <strong>on</strong>e in being, c<strong>on</strong>sciousness anddivine bliss with <strong>the</strong> greatest Uttama Purusha, made <strong>on</strong>e withhis supreme dynamic nature-force, svā prakṛtiḥ, <strong>the</strong> liberatedspirit can know infinitely, love illimitably, act unfalteringly in <strong>the</strong>au<strong>the</strong>ntic power of a highest immortality and a perfect freedom.The rest of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Gita</strong> is written to throw a fuller light <strong>on</strong> thisimmortal Dharma.
