SP-2000/X-YMaintenance And RepairElectronics RepairService PhilosophyServicing is supported at three levels by Vinten Inc. after the 12-month warrantyperiod expires:• On-site service may be contracted from Vinten Inc. or through therepresentative from which the system was purchased.• Board-level replacement may be readily accomplished by stationpersonnel, using stocked or ordered circuit boards.• Component level replacement is feasible to some extent, by qualifiedstation engineers or technicians, using the material in thischapter.Service questions may be directed to factory service specialists at Vinten Inc. inValley Cottage, NY, by phone at 1-845 268-0100, or toll free (in the U.S.A.) at1-888 4 VINTEN (1-888-484-6836). You can also fax Vinten at 1-845-268-0113. An emergency telephone service is available 24 hours a day, seven days aweek using the 1-845-268-0100 or 1-888 4VINTEN numbers.To streamline service and support, the same boards are used in multiple locationswherever possible. This allows you to swap boards in many cases to isolatea fault. For example, the 503 Power Amplifier (motor driver) is used six times inthe SP-2000/X-Y (and twice in each head). The 4 Channel Servo Board is usedtwice in the SP-2000/X-Y (and once in each head). Note however, that thejumper setting (J1) on the 4 Channel Board must be changed depending onwhether it is used for Steer, Drive or Pan/Tilt.SafetyWARNING: Service should only be performed by qualifiedpersonnel, who are familiar with the equipment. At somepoints inside the power supplies 120 (or 240) volts AC isexposed, with a potential of electrical shock. Unless there is apower supply failure, the highest voltage present in the cable or pedestalshould be no more than +42 VDC (±42 VDC in older dual voltage systems).The normal unregulated supply voltages supplied to the head are ±30 VDC.WARNING: When you are working on a pedestal, disconnectthe Power/Data cable to isolate the pedestal from the system.4-22 User Manual
SP-2000/X-YMaintenance And RepairWARNING: Some maintenance procedures must be performedwith the pedestal and head powered. There is dangerthat an unexpected motion could swing the head or move thepedestal, possibly striking or pinching you and causing physicalinjury. Read the Safety section in Chapter 1 of this User Manual beforestarting.CAUTION: The camera/head combination, is very heavy - beespecially careful when working under it.User Manual 4-23
