SP-2000/X-YMaintenance And RepairBattery Pack and Power ManagementThe Battery Pack board manages the power to the pedestal. When the Standby/Charge button is pressed, the enable signal to the rack mounted AC power supplyis pulled low. This trickle charges the batteries at the rate of approximately0.5 amps. The maximum charge voltage is set at the factory by pots on the BatteryPack board. These pots should not normally be readjusted. However, calibrationinformation is provided on the schematic should you need to make anadjustment. Overvoltage should be avoided as it offers no advantage and greatlyshortens battery life. Battery life under normal operation should exceed fiveyears. The battery voltage is displayed on the LED voltmeter on the pedestal controlpanel. Depending on usage and how well the head and pedestal are balanced, the batteries should have enough capacity to run the dolly for several hours.Complete recharging takes overnight. Charging also takes place during normalAC powered operation in either the Standby/Charge or Run modes. When the Run button is pressed, a chassis mounted relay connects power to therest of the pedestal. If the AC power supply is connected via the cable to thepedestal, it will be turned on (if it was not already on), and supply voltages arepassed through the Battery Pack board to the rest of the pedestal. If the voltagefrom the power supply drops out, the batteries will catch the load and maintainpedestal power. When the batteries are drained to the 10% point and only deliver21 volts, the Battery Pack board will power down the dolly. When operating without the AC power supply, the Run button starts delivery ofbattery power to the pedestal, under the control of the Battery Pack board. Thebattery pack also sources momentary high current demands made by the pedestal, even when the system is AC powered. This permits the use of cables that arelighter and longer than on previous systems.User Manual 4-31
