<strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> PATHFINDERS: THE SECOND YEAR479. The Pathfinder has strong links <strong>to</strong> current national curriculum developments<strong>and</strong> developers. Two influential academics from the Institute of Education, University ofLondon are members of the management group <strong>and</strong> their curriculum thinking (around theintroduction of a diploma or baccalaureate) has both influenced, <strong>and</strong> been influenced by,developments in the Kingswood Partnership <strong>and</strong> the Pathfinder <strong>and</strong> has fed in<strong>to</strong> thecurrent work of the DfES <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> Working Group. Other leading members of thePathfinder are also contributing significantly <strong>to</strong> current national policy-making on the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase.480. The Partnership <strong>and</strong> Pathfinder have also benefited from strong links with aninternational learning <strong>and</strong> research centre which is based in one of the schools.Features of the Pathfinder481. A key feature of the Pathfinder is its focus on staff <strong>and</strong> curriculumdevelopment which is realised largely through the Teacher Learner Groups (TLGs). Thisdevelopment is central <strong>to</strong> the focus within the Pathfinder on increasing capacity withinthe partnership. The TLG’s are composed of one teacher from each of the partners. Thegroups meet fortnightly with supply cover funded through the Pathfinder <strong>and</strong> are chairedby Development Managers. The International Learning <strong>and</strong> Research Centre hasprovided training <strong>and</strong> support for the Development Managers.482. There are currently seven TLGs;‣ Curriculum Framework Group – overall responsibility for curriculum planning‣ Specialist Courses Group - introduction of new courses‣ Personal Challenge Group - planning the core curriculum‣ Unified Guidance Group - development of ILPs <strong>and</strong> course <strong>and</strong> career guidanceprocedures‣ Off-site Education Group - development of pro<strong>to</strong>cols <strong>and</strong> arrangements for all courses<strong>and</strong> other experiences provided away from ‘home’ sites‣ Extranet Group - development of a virtual learning environment system‣ E learning Group - application of the extranet system in teaching <strong>and</strong> learning,interactive teaching <strong>and</strong> learning systems <strong>and</strong> video conferencing.<strong>14</strong>3
