<strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> PATHFINDERS: THE SECOND YEAR167. Linking with Aim Higher was the main means by which pathfinders promoted post-<strong>19</strong>progression <strong>to</strong> higher education. A variety of activities had been undertaken including visits<strong>to</strong> HEIs, master classes <strong>and</strong> after school activities. One pathfinder referred <strong>to</strong> activitiesdesigned <strong>to</strong> promote Foundation degrees. In several pathfinders there were specialagreements with local universities e.g. guaranteed interviews for c<strong>and</strong>idates who metminimum entry requirements.168. Few obstacles <strong>to</strong> the promotion of post-<strong>19</strong> progression were raised by coordina<strong>to</strong>rs.Those mentioned included distance from universities <strong>and</strong> absence of a local tradition ofattending higher education. One coordina<strong>to</strong>r reported that attempts <strong>to</strong> build a partnershipbased on evidence of wider activities (i.e. a personal challenge or extended project) with oneuniversity foundered because the HEI wanted a direct compact based on A Level grades.55
