<strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> PATHFINDERS: THE SECOND YEARSECTION SEVEN: IMPLICATIONS FOR POLICY ANDPRACTICEKey points‣ Sustainability is a key theme as the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> Pathfinders move <strong>to</strong>wards the end of theirfunding period‣ Sustainability will require the maintenance <strong>and</strong> extension of collaboration, curriculumprovision <strong>and</strong> innovation‣ The establishment of financial underpinning <strong>and</strong> increased capacity are importantelements of sustainability‣ Maintaining or developing increased commitment amongst partners is likely <strong>to</strong> be key<strong>to</strong> sustainability‣ The continued reform of the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase will require that fundamental curricularprinciples concerning breadth, differentiation, relationships between academic <strong>and</strong>vocational learning <strong>and</strong> different forms of vocationalism be kept continually underreview‣ Information, advice, guidance <strong>and</strong> support continues <strong>to</strong> be crucial <strong>to</strong> the developmen<strong>to</strong>f the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase. Policy-makers <strong>and</strong> practitioners need <strong>to</strong> continue <strong>to</strong> identifystrengths <strong>and</strong> weaknesses in current provision <strong>and</strong> devise ways in which problems canbe tackled‣ <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> Pathfinders have sought <strong>to</strong> bring about change through a combination of centralsteering <strong>and</strong> local responsiveness. It will be important for policy-makers <strong>and</strong>practitioners <strong>to</strong> review this approach <strong>to</strong> bringing about change in order <strong>to</strong> identify itsstrengths <strong>and</strong> weaknesses <strong>and</strong> its continued potential for promoting change in the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase.536. In this final section of the report we focus upon some of the implications of the keyfindings for policy <strong>and</strong> practice. We do so under four main headings: sustainability;curriculum provision <strong>and</strong> practice; student support <strong>and</strong> guidance; local responsiveness <strong>and</strong>central steering.158
