<strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> PATHFINDERS: THE SECOND YEAR4. <strong>to</strong> continue <strong>to</strong> explore <strong>and</strong> analyse the opportunities for, <strong>and</strong> constraints on, thedevelopment of the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase in the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> Pathfinders5. <strong>to</strong> examine the potential value-added effects of the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> Pathfinders <strong>and</strong> associatedfunding arrangements.♦ Four main methods were used <strong>to</strong> address these aims:(i)(ii)(iii)(iv)documentary analysisselective literature review of cognate approaches <strong>to</strong> educational changesurvey of all pathfinderscase studies of thirteen pathfinders <strong>and</strong> two unfunded <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> partnershipsMAIN FINDINGS<strong>Collaborative</strong> Working‣ Collaboration remains at the heart of the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> Pathfinders initiative‣ The vast majority of pathfinders continue <strong>to</strong> report good progress in collaborativeworking‣ The forms which collaboration takes in individual pathfinders is brought about byinteraction between national, local <strong>and</strong> institutional policies <strong>and</strong> local contextualfac<strong>to</strong>rs‣ Collaboration in individual pathfinders varies in institutional inclusivity, the levels atwhich it operates, its substantive focus <strong>and</strong> its geographical scope‣ It is still <strong>to</strong>o early <strong>to</strong> assess the impact of collaboration on student participation,retention, achievement <strong>and</strong> progression but it has brought a significant broadening ofcurriculum provision <strong>and</strong> has enhanced student information, support <strong>and</strong> guidanceprocesses.Curriculum <strong>Provision</strong>‣ The broadening of curricular provision has been a key feature of all the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong>Pathfindersiii
