<strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> PATHFINDERS: THE SECOND YEARoverall was praised for its facilitation of collaboration <strong>and</strong> partnership which was recognisedas a strength.The Pathfinder focus2<strong>14</strong>. The Coventry Pathfinder should be seen in the context of the overall development ofthe <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase across the city. Other key developments include the strengthening <strong>and</strong>broadening of the school federations providing post-16 education <strong>and</strong> projects fundedthrough the European Social Fund <strong>and</strong> the Increased Flexibility programme intended <strong>to</strong> openup a range of vocational provision for <strong>14</strong>-16 year olds.215. The Pathfinder has four main aims:‣ To raise the level of achievement of all young people <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong>;‣ To further increase participation rates in learning post 16.‣ To increase <strong>and</strong> enhance <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> provision <strong>and</strong> pathways by collaborative working in boththe City <strong>and</strong> Sub-Region‣ To raise the attainment <strong>and</strong> motivation for learning of under-achieving groups,particularly White UK heritage boys <strong>and</strong> Black Caribbean heritage boys.216. The key objectives are:‣ To provide a curriculum that is more responsive <strong>to</strong> students’ individual needs aspirations<strong>and</strong> aptitudes.‣ To introduce e-learning thus both widening access <strong>to</strong> specialist subject teaching, <strong>and</strong>increasing cost-effectiveness.‣ To provide an enhanced programme of guidance <strong>and</strong> support217. These objectives were <strong>to</strong> be achieved through:1. Widening the choice of courses <strong>and</strong> pathways at <strong>14</strong>-16 through the introduction <strong>and</strong>enhancement of GCSEs in vocational subjects <strong>and</strong> at post-16 by increased <strong>and</strong>enhanced provision in VCEs <strong>and</strong> GNVQs.2. Providing a wide range of off-site work related learning <strong>to</strong> which all young peopleat <strong>14</strong>-16 <strong>and</strong> post-16 have access, <strong>and</strong> which is appropriate <strong>to</strong> the needs, talents <strong>and</strong>aspirations of each individual.71
