Coventry developments are also notable for the ways in which they extend across thewhole 14-19 phase, involve a wide range of partners, aim to change the learning ofexperiences of students with a wide range of achievement and impact on a large number ofcurricular areas. As noted above this wide range of activities are located within a broadstrategic approach and are based upon a clear-sighted of analysis of the sort of developmentwhich is feasible and desirable across the city.237. As in other pathfinders sustainability is a key issue for the future. There is wellfoundedconfidence that the federations will continue and provide the basis for futuredevelopment. However, some of the more specific developments, such as the provision ofwork-related learning at 14-16, are heavily dependent upon specific funding streams whilePathfinder has funded important development work. In the absence of specific fundingstreams it may be that there will be some retrenchment in these activities. In the pastCoventry has funded the overwhelming majority of the costs of off-site work related learningprovision from external funds, but in preparation for a cessation of external funding, theschools are now funding a greater proportion of the true costs from their mainstream budgetthan previously. The true cost of off-site learning has also being made clear to schools.77
