<strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> PATHFINDERS: THE SECOND YEARFocus of the Pathfinder525. Central <strong>to</strong> <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> development in Southwark is the Southwark Guarantee whichintegrates the Pathfinder, the AWI Action Plan <strong>and</strong> the Increased Flexibility project. TheGuarantee will ensure that all <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> year olds in Southwark institutions:‣ are offered, <strong>and</strong> receive, high quality provision by all Southwark providers,irrespective of which route or combination of routes a young person follows in theborough <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong>‣ are equipped <strong>to</strong> make well-informed choices about their path through educationtraining <strong>and</strong> employment;‣ are well supported in order <strong>to</strong> achieve their goals by the age of <strong>19</strong>.526. The Pathfinder is supporting the implementation of the Guarantee, particularlythrough facilitating collaboration <strong>and</strong> funding the appointment of Southwark Guaranteemanagers in the schools <strong>and</strong> college. More specifically, through the Pathfinder, there wasin-depth auditing of two vocational areas in order <strong>to</strong> identify career pathways acrossacademic, vocational <strong>and</strong> work-based routes for students at all levels. This led <strong>to</strong> theproduction of clear mapping advice for students <strong>and</strong> parents about opportunities,qualifications <strong>and</strong> progression paths in those vocational areas.Features of the Pathfinder527. A major feature of the Pathfinder has been the way in which Southwarkschools, colleges, training providers <strong>and</strong> other partners have been drawn in<strong>to</strong>collaboration around the Southwark Guarantee. The Southwark Guarantee forum <strong>and</strong>managers groups have become important sources of policies, ideas <strong>and</strong> the sharing goodpractice. It is anticipated that these collaborative structures will outlive short-termfunding streams <strong>and</strong> continue <strong>to</strong> influence the <strong>14</strong>-<strong>19</strong> phase in Southwark.528. In this Pathfinder there is considerable emphasis on labour market <strong>and</strong> skillsgap analyses which have identified half a dozen sec<strong>to</strong>rs around which developmentshould be based. The Pathfinder has innovatively linked this analysis <strong>to</strong> the work done in154
