In thetype material from BR the conidia are mostly 3–5-septate, 25–72× 2.5–3.5 µm, and very similar in shape to those observed in thematerial that was collected from the field for the present study. Theisolates show more variation in colony characters than observed inmost other species of Septoria, but this phenotypic heterogeneity isneither reflected in the sporulating structures nor in the sequencedata obtained. It is concluded therefore that the materialstudied belongs to a single species. Septoria saccardoi, basedon material from Lysimachia vulgaris in Italy, is characterised bycylindrical, curved, 3-septate conidia, 38–40 × 3.5 µm (Saccardo1906). Quaedvlieg et al. (2013) describe this species in detailbased on an isolate originating from of Lysimachia vulgaris var.davuricai in Korea (CBS 128665 = KACC 43962) and because it isdistant to other septoria-like fungi, they propose a new genus nameto accommodate it, Xenoseptoria. CBS 128758, isolated from L.clethoroides in Korea was identified as S. lysimachiae, but basedon sequence analyses it is a distant fungus belonging in the genusSphaerulina.Septoria matricariae Hollós, Annls Mus. nat. Conidia filiform, straight, curved or slightlyflexuous, attenuated gradually towards a relatively narrowlyrounded to pointed apex, barely attenuated towards the broadlytruncate base, indistinctly (1–)2–3(–6)-septate, not or indistinctlyconstricted around septa, hyaline, contents with a few minute oildropletsand granular material in each cell in the living state, withinconspicuous oil-droplets and granular contents in the rehydratedstate, 41–58 × 2–3 µm (living; rehydrated, 1.5–2.4 µm wide).Sexual morph unknown.Description in vitro: Colonies on OA 19–24 mm diam in 3 wk (44–48mm in 6 wk), with an even, glabrous, colourless margin; coloniesspreading, the surface plane, immersed mycelium olivaceous-blackwww.studiesinmycology.org271
