) Potable water supply serving the swimming pool, showers, drinking points <strong>and</strong> other water usingdevices shall be in compliance with the SANS 241 for drinking water of 2011.c) The surface of the floor area surrounding the spa bath or swimming pool must be constructed of anapproved impervious, non slip material.d) Toilet facilities (flush water closets <strong>and</strong> urinals) <strong>and</strong> showers must be provided on the premises.Separate <strong>to</strong>ilet <strong>and</strong> showers must be provided for males <strong>and</strong> for females. The <strong>to</strong>ilet facilities shall alsobe accessible <strong>to</strong> disabled persons.e) The ratio of <strong>to</strong>ilets, urinals <strong>and</strong> showers shall be one (1) water closet for every twenty (40) <strong>and</strong> one (1)urinal for every fifty (50) males swimmers expected at the time full capacity.f) The ratio of one (1) shower must be provided for every twenty (20) swimmers on the premises.g) Floors, walls <strong>and</strong> ceiling in the <strong>to</strong>ilet <strong>and</strong> shower facilities must be constructed of an approvedmaterial, not adversely affected by steam, water.h) Toilet <strong>and</strong> shower facilities must be properly ventilated in accordance with the Building Regulations,<strong>to</strong> prevent the existence of odour nuisances.i) Toilet <strong>and</strong> shower facilities must be kept clean <strong>and</strong> sanitary at all times.j) Floors of <strong>to</strong>ilets <strong>and</strong> shower rooms shall be constructed of a non-slippery finish, impervious <strong>to</strong>moisture that is easily cleanable.k) Readily accessible change rooms must be provided for the convenience of users <strong>and</strong> must beseparated for each sex.l) Water used <strong>to</strong> fill swimming pools or <strong>to</strong> keep the level of the pool or spa baths must be obtained froman approved water source.3.2 Moni<strong>to</strong>ring of water qualitya) The spa bath/swimming pool must be frequently moni<strong>to</strong>red for turbidity, residual disinfectant <strong>and</strong> pHvalues. The pH of swimming pool water should be controlled <strong>to</strong> ensure efficient disinfection <strong>and</strong>coagulation, <strong>to</strong> avoid damage <strong>to</strong> the pool fabric <strong>and</strong> ensure user comfort. The pH should bemaintained between 7.2 <strong>and</strong> 7.8 for chlorine disinfectants <strong>and</strong> between 7.2 <strong>and</strong> 8.0 for bromine-based<strong>and</strong> other non-chlorine processes. Where chlorine based disinfectant are used, a minimum freeavailable chlorine residual of 0.5 mg/l, with a maximum free available chlorine residual of 3 mg/l mustbe maintained.b) The <strong>to</strong>tal viable bacteriological count of any sample submitted for analysis must not exceed 100organisms per ml of water.c) Escherichia coli type 1 bacteria must not e present in any 100 ml of spa bath or swimming pool water.d) An EHP must take bacteriological <strong>and</strong> chemical samples of the spa bath or swimming pool water atleast monthly.
