h) A daily record must be kept on the premises of the quality of spa bath water. An EHP must have fullaccess of those records.i) The premises of a spa bath or swimming pool must be kept in a safe, clean <strong>and</strong> sanitary condition<strong>and</strong> in good repair at all times.j) No direct physical connection between the sewer system <strong>and</strong> any drain from the swimming pool orrecirculation system must exist. Any swimming pool, gutter drain, overflow from the recirculationsystem when discharged <strong>to</strong> the sewer system shall connect through a suitable air gap so as <strong>to</strong>preclude the possibility of backflow sewage or waste in<strong>to</strong> the swimming pool piping system.3.3 General hygiene requirementsa) The spa bath/ swimming pool <strong>and</strong> its surroundings must be kept in a clean <strong>and</strong> sanitary condition atall times.b) Pre-swimming hygiene education must be given users in both public <strong>and</strong> semi public pools.c) The sewer system shall be adequate <strong>to</strong> serve the facility, including bathhouse, locker room <strong>and</strong>related accommodations. The sewer line serving the backwash for the filter shall be 1-1/2 times thesize of the backwash line or provide a containment vessel capable of holding a minimum of 5 minutesvolume of backwash water at the backwash design rate.d) In the case of an accidental faecal release or vomit:• The facility must be closed for use <strong>and</strong> all bather removed;• The contaminants shall be removed <strong>and</strong> inactivated;• The water chemistry shall be checked;• If disinfection levels are within required parameters, the pool shall remain closed for at least 60minutes <strong>and</strong> then re-opened.• If disinfection levels are not within the required parameters, the pool shall be closed <strong>and</strong>disinfection levels res<strong>to</strong>red. The facility may re-open 60 minutes after acceptable disinfectantlevels have been attained.• If faeces are in the form of diarrhoea, the pool shall be closed for 24 hrs, remedial action taken <strong>to</strong>remove the contaminants, disinfect the facility <strong>and</strong> attain acceptable quality st<strong>and</strong>ards before reopeningthe facility.e) Persons suspected of suffering from a communicable disease shall not be permitted <strong>to</strong> use a spabath/swimming pool.f) Animals shall not be allowed in the spa bath/ swimming pool or surrounding area, unless in the caseof a guide dog.3.4 Other requirementsa) A properly maintained, approved <strong>and</strong> fully resourced first aid box must be kept on the premises forthe treatment of minor injuries.b) A qualified <strong>and</strong> proficient life saver/s must be available on swimming pool premises <strong>and</strong> must becompetent in life saving, first aid, <strong>and</strong> the operation of the swimming pool.c) The sanitary sewer serving the swimming pool <strong>and</strong> auxiliary facilities shall discharge <strong>to</strong> the publicsewer system wherever possible. Where no such sewer is available, a method of disposal must be inplace.1. NORMSSECTION 10: DRY CLEANING AND LAUNDRY ESTABLISHMENTS1.1 The premises operated under a permit authorizing that activity, issued by the relevant municipality.1.2 The premises <strong>and</strong> general facilities in compliance <strong>to</strong> environmental health <strong>and</strong> occupational hygienerequirements.1.3 Emission levels in compliance with the prescribed Ambient Air Quality St<strong>and</strong>ards in terms of the<strong>National</strong> <strong>Environmental</strong> Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004.1.4 Fire fighting <strong>and</strong> control equipment available <strong>and</strong> in compliance <strong>to</strong> the local municipality firedepartment requirements.2.
