j) Toilet facilities intended for female workers must be provided with a disposal receptacle for sanitarynapkins. The receptacle must be so designed as <strong>to</strong> prevent the exposure of the contents.k) Supply of <strong>to</strong>ilet paper must be provided at all times in the <strong>to</strong>ilet facilities.l) All <strong>to</strong>ilet facilities must be designed <strong>to</strong> provide the user with privacy <strong>and</strong> sanitation dignity.m) Washing facilities equipped with a supply of hot <strong>and</strong> cold running water must be provided foremployees, especially employees engaged in the application of paints, coating, pesticides etc.n) Toilet <strong>and</strong> washing facilities must be maintained in a sanitary condition at all times.o) H<strong>and</strong> soap <strong>and</strong> disposable paper <strong>to</strong>wels/h<strong>and</strong> blowers/individual sections of continuous cloth<strong>to</strong>weling, must be provided in close proximity <strong>to</strong> <strong>to</strong>ilet <strong>and</strong> washing facilities.p) Where disposable cups are supplied, both a sanitary container for unused cups <strong>and</strong> a receptacle fordisposal of used cups must be provided.3.2 Physical facilitiesa) A construction site must be properly fenced off <strong>to</strong> prevent unauthorised entry that might lead <strong>to</strong> injuryor danger <strong>to</strong> health.b) Construction areas, ramps, runways, corridors, offices, shops, <strong>and</strong> s<strong>to</strong>rage areas must be adequatelylighted while any work is in progress:c) Construction areas must be adequately ventilated <strong>and</strong> equipped with adequate extraction systems forthe removal of fumes, gases, vapours, dust <strong>and</strong> mist from the work areas in<strong>to</strong> the atmosphere.d) Whenever food is served for employees on site, the facilities used in connection with the preparation,h<strong>and</strong>ling, s<strong>to</strong>rage <strong>and</strong> serving of foodstuffs must comply <strong>to</strong> prescribe Hygiene Requirements for FoodPremises.e) Where necessary in the interests of the health <strong>and</strong> safety of any person on a construction site, asufficient number of suitable emergency routes <strong>and</strong> exits shall be provided <strong>to</strong> enable any person <strong>to</strong>reach a place of safety quickly in the event of danger.f) Whenever employees are required <strong>to</strong> wear protective clothing when engaged in work, esp. becauseof the possibility of contamination with <strong>to</strong>xic materials, change rooms <strong>and</strong> showers must be providedon site.g) Change rooms must be equipped with s<strong>to</strong>rage facilities for personal belongings <strong>and</strong> protectiveclothing of each worker.h) At least 1 (one) shower must be provided for every 12 (twelve) employees of each sex on thepremises 1:12, who are required <strong>to</strong> shower during the same shift.i) Showers must be provided with hot <strong>and</strong> cold running water <strong>and</strong> a supply of soap <strong>and</strong> clean <strong>to</strong>wels.3.3 General requirementsa) Waste material <strong>and</strong> debris must be removed <strong>to</strong> a disposal area <strong>and</strong> reusable material must be sorted<strong>and</strong> moved <strong>to</strong> a s<strong>to</strong>rage area at least once daily <strong>to</strong> prevent a hazardous condition arising.b) Rubbish, debris <strong>and</strong> other waste material from the demolition or construction of projects must betemporarily disposed off in a designated area on site where people do not have access.c) If the dissemination of dust is a hazard <strong>to</strong> the neighbouring community, the dust must be adequatelycontrolled <strong>to</strong> prevent a nuisance or hazard from continuing.d) Noise levels from construction activities on the premises must conform <strong>to</strong> the <strong>Environmental</strong>Conservation Act, Noise Control Regulations of 20 November 1998.e) Dust control measures must be put in place <strong>to</strong> control dust from the construction activities <strong>and</strong> allemissions must be in compliance with the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Environmental</strong> Management; Air Quality Act of2004.f) Fire control equipment must be available on the premises, in compliance <strong>to</strong> the municipality’s firecontrol requirements.SECTION 14: FUNERAL UNDERTAKER’S, MORTUARIES, CREMATORIUM PREMISESFuneral undertakers, mortuaries <strong>and</strong> crema<strong>to</strong>rium premises shall include all private <strong>and</strong> public (policestations, hospitals, police stations) premises.1.
