Corporate ResponsibilityPeople Perspective<strong>Axiata</strong>’s vision is to be a regionalchampion by 2015. The developmentof our talent pool of 25,000employees towards fulfilling theirpotential is key to the future successof the <strong>Group</strong>.Several initiatives have been put inplace to ensure we become aCompany that develops World ClassTalent.Talent Management and LeadershipDevelopmentIn 2009, <strong>Axiata</strong> implementeda comprehensive <strong>Group</strong>-wide TalentManagement programme, includingt h e f r a m e w o r k , a s s e s s m e n tmethodology and process for eachOpCo to follow and govern at boththe OpCo and <strong>Group</strong> levels. Currentlyabout 48 CxO potentials within the<strong>Group</strong> have been identified and theirdevelopment closely monitored. Thetarget is to have 100 such potentialsby 2015, with a high readiness levelto succeed the existing CxOs andalso to contribute to the humancapital agenda of the countries that<strong>Axiata</strong> operates in.The OpCos themselves are lookinginto establishing the talent pipelinea t o t h e r l e v e l s w i t h i n t h e i rorganisations including top-qualitygraduate intake. Subsequently, fourd e v e l o p m e n t p l a t f o r m s w e r eestablished and a comprehensivedevelopment plan implemented forthe identified potentials. Thedevelopment platforms are designedto enable <strong>Axiata</strong> to leverage on itsregional operations by exposingthem to different markets andcultures.T h e l e a d e r s h i p d e v e l o p m e n tprogramme was rolled out acrossthe <strong>Group</strong>, creating a platform whereleaders get to work on real businessissues in a safe environment as theyinternalise what they have learned.Self-awareness workshops, based onassessment of the individuals, hadhigh traction with the incumbents.CEOs from across the <strong>Group</strong> alsoshare their leadership insights withthe participants.As a testament to the <strong>Group</strong>’scommitment to developing talent,<strong>Axiata</strong> also has an active <strong>Group</strong>Talent Council made up of the TopManagement from Corporate Centreand all the OpCos, chaired by the<strong>Group</strong> CEO and facilitated by <strong>Group</strong>HR as secretariat. The Council meetsregularly to ensure the talentmanagement framework continuesto address current and futurebusiness needs and monitors thedevelopment of the identifiedpotentials.To supplement the current potentialsfrom within the <strong>Group</strong>, steps arebeing taken to extend the talentmanagement framework to includethe recruitment of top graduates.The Young Talent Programme aimsto identify fresh graduates to bepart of the talent pipeline.This 12-month programme will includeon-the-job experience and intensiveeducation-based developmentinvolving a combination of workshops,projects, coaching and opportunitiesto network with diverse groups ofpeople – from peers to seniorleadership teams in various functionsand countries. A rigorous selectionprocess is employed to ensure that<strong>Axiata</strong> recruits fresh graduates withhigh-potential to be accelerated intheir development from the start oftheir career.<strong>Axiata</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> • 148
