GENERAL INFORMATIONThe principal activities of the <strong>Group</strong> are the provision of mobile communication services and network transmissionrelated services.The principal activities of the Company are investment holding and consultancy services on an international scale, whereit has investments in subsidiaries and associates. The principal activities of the subsidiaries are mainly the provision ofmobile communication services and network transmission related services.The principal activities of the subsidiaries are set out in Note 45 to the financial statements. There has been nosignificant change in the nature of the activities of the <strong>Group</strong> and the Company during the financial year.The address of the registered office of the Company is <strong>Axiata</strong> Centre, Level 5, 9 Jalan Stesen Sentral 5, Kuala LumpurSentral, 50470 Kuala Lumpur.The address of the principal place of business of the Company is <strong>Axiata</strong> Centre, 9 Jalan Stesen Sentral 5, Kuala LumpurSentral, 50470 Kuala Lumpur.2. CHANGE OF NAMEOn 31 March 2009, the Company changed its name from TM International <strong>Berhad</strong> to <strong>Axiata</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong>.3. BASIS OF PREPARATION OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTSThe financial statements of the <strong>Group</strong> and the Company have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of theCompanies Act, 1965 and Financial Reporting Standards, the MASB Approved Accounting Standards in Malaysia forEntities Other Than Private Entities.The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention except as disclosed in the summaryof significant accounting policies.The <strong>Group</strong> restructuring completed in the previous financial year as disclosed in Note 6(I) to the financial statementssatisfied the applicable criteria to be treated as a business combination involving entities under common control.Accordingly, the <strong>Group</strong> has applied the principles of the predecessor method of merger accounting by which therestructured group was presented in such a manner as to depict that it had been in its resultant form for the financialyear ended 2008 covered by the <strong>Group</strong>’s financial statements in accordance with the <strong>Group</strong> accounting policy detailedin Note 4(a)(i).The financial statements are presented in Ringgit Malaysia (RM) and all values are rounded to the nearest thousand(RM’000) except when otherwise indicated.<strong>Axiata</strong> <strong>Group</strong> <strong>Berhad</strong> • 170
