XL also collaborated with ICT Watch,an NGO involved in Information andTelecommunication, to launch theInternet Sehat (Healthy Internet)campaign, an educational programmethat seeks to impart the proper useof the internet. In support of thisc a m p a i g n , X L p r i n t e d a n ddisseminated Internet Sehat booklets,held seminars, and sought to directlyengage and inform teachers andschools alike as part of its Komputeruntuk Sekolah programme.For the first time, XL launched theKhazanah Scholarship programme in2009. This effort was carried out incollaboration with Yayasan Khazanah,CIMB Niaga and XL.Under this programme, four highschool graduates from Indonesiawere selected to pursue bachelor’sdegrees with leading universities inMalaysia.In cooperation with the DharmaWanita Pusat Foundation, XL alsogranted educational incentives tounderprivileged Indonesian studentswho achieved excellent academicresults.XL supports the Taman Pintar (SmartPark) programme which providesfree internet connection andinteractive learning materials ontelecommunications. XL has also in2009, built a school, as well asreading parks and libraries for schoolsin various parts of Indonesia.Together with the Nurani DuniaFoundation, XL donated a mobilelibrary to serve the Jakarta area aswell as donated various books topromote reading among Indonesianchildren.In 2009, a number of devastatingquakes struck Indonesia includingparts of West Java and WestSumatra. XL dispatched vitaltelecommunications assistance aswell as support in the form of fundingand goods for the victims. XL hasalso established a set of StandardOperating Procedures that governthe method for engaging andproviding assistance during calamitiesso as to ensure that relief efforts arecarried out in the best possibleway.BANGLADESHRobi is committed towards buildinga better Bangladesh and is activelyinvolved in various CR programmes.With a view to contributing towardsthe sustainable development of socioeconomic and ecological conditionof the people of Bangladesh, Robi isfocusing on their primary needs aswell as the culture and heritage ofthe country.English in Schools (EIS), Robi’sbiggest ever CR programme, is alanguage learning programme topromote English language learning atsecondary schools across thecountry. Under this three year(initially) long project, EIS reachesout to 0.7 million students and10,000 teachers of 1,000 secondarylevel schools. These 1000 schoolsreceive three free copies of TheDaily Star, five days a week, alongwith a special EIS content page oncea week as an English learning tool,both for the students as well as theteachers. The upcoming phases ofEIS are mostly concentrated on basicEnglish development through variousprogrammes. EIS aims to build abetter future for the young students,helping them with the ‘Learn Englishand Think Global’ programme, beingimplemented in partnership with TheDaily Star, Bangladesh’s leading dailynewspaper.Annual Report 2009 • 153
