Dato’ Sri Jamaludin IbrahimAge 51, MalaysianAppointed to the Board on 3 March 2008Managing Director/President& <strong>Group</strong> Chief Executive OfficerWorking Experience: Jamaludin was appointed asManaging Director/President and <strong>Group</strong> Chief ExecutiveOfficer on 24 March 2008. Prior to his appointment in<strong>Axiata</strong>, Jamaludin was with Maxis Communications <strong>Berhad</strong>(Maxis), which he joined in 1997 and was appointed ChiefOperating Officer in the same year, and Chief ExecutiveOfficer in 1998. In 2006, he was re-designated as the<strong>Group</strong> Chief Executive Officer to reflect Maxis’ internationalfootprint. He retired from Maxis in July 2007 but remainedas a Board member until February 2008. Prior to joiningMaxis, he spent 16 years in the IT industry. He was theManaging Director and Chief Executive Officer of DigitalEquipment Malaysia (then the second largestIT-company worldwide) from 1993 to 1997. Jamaludinalso spent 12 years in IBM (1981-1993) as SystemsEngineer and then in various positions in Sales, Marketingand Management. Prior to IBM, he was a lecturer inQuantitative Methods at California State University, USAin 1980.Qualifications: Graduated from California State University,USA in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science in BusinessAdministration and minor in Mathematics. Obtained anMBA from Portland State University, Oregon, USA in1980.Directorships of Public Companies: <strong>Axiata</strong> <strong>Group</strong>Companies – Celcom (Chairman), XL and M1.Other Information: Member of the Board of MultimediaDevelopment Corporation Sdn Bhd, GSM Association andUniversiti Tun Abdul Razak. He was inducted into the Hallof Fame for ‘Services to the Mobile TelecommunicationsIndustry’ by Asian Mobile News in 2004, and earned theaccolade of Malaysia’s ‘CEO of the Year’ 2000 byAmerican Express and Business Times. He was alsonamed Asian Mobile Operator CEO of the Year by AsianMobile News Awards 2007. Most recently, he was votedTelecom CEO of the Year at the Telecom Asia Awards2010.Attended all 11 Board meetings held in the financialyear.Annual Report 2009 • 051
