Lesson - 6 105To do this you should develop a continued awareness toyour own respiration. This is the first step. Choose the sametime and same place and begin to practise. Sit in comfort, closeyour eyes and relax every muscle and every nerve <strong>of</strong> your bodywith the help <strong>of</strong> your mind. With your mind travel slowly fromyour head to your feet, noticing every nerve and muscle inside.Wherever you find tension see that it is relaxed. <strong>The</strong> secondstep is to observe the movements that take place during eachrespiration. By doing so you are growing more and more aware<strong>of</strong> your respiration. <strong>The</strong> mind that is working in the head-centrelearns to approach the activity <strong>of</strong> the respiration and circulationthat is taking place in the heart-centre. <strong>The</strong> objective mind learnsto grow subjective. <strong>The</strong> activity <strong>of</strong> the not-self starts gettingabsorbed into the activity <strong>of</strong> the real self, the soul-light. All theactivity <strong>of</strong> the head will be withdrawn to the heart-centre. <strong>The</strong>nthe head-centre is released <strong>of</strong> the hitherto existing disturbance.<strong>The</strong> intelligences <strong>of</strong> Shambhalla begin to work with the headcentre.<strong>The</strong> mind learns to <strong>of</strong>fer itself up to the activity <strong>of</strong> theHierarchy. You will learn to take part in the activity <strong>of</strong> the Christwhile the beings <strong>of</strong> Shambhalla begin to take care <strong>of</strong> you. Everydayyou should find some time to practise this. Make the respirationconscious by respiring consciously.<strong>The</strong> third step is to establish uniformity in respiration.Begin to inhale and exhale under your supervision. Breatheslow, s<strong>of</strong>t and deep. Let there be no acceleration, no retardationin the process. Breathing s<strong>of</strong>t means you should not produceor listen any sound in your breath. Between one inhalation andexhalation, let there be no Khumbaka practice. Let not thebreath constipate inside. Some schools <strong>of</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> teach usKhumbaka or retention <strong>of</strong> breath in Pranayama.
