Sometimes you have to wait,sometimes you have to proceed. Sometimes it is urgent toproceed, sometimes it is urgent to wait. There is the telephonefrom the higher centres which we call the instinct and it shouldguide you. If you just listen to the ring and lift the telephone ofinstinct you will know when to wait and when to proceed. Whenyou live in the senses with a reactive nature you will rush whennot allowed and wait when called. When reaction is neutralisedand action is established, you will know the spur precisely.Such a step is really a step forward in human evolution.Sometimes you may doubt “do we really attempt or somethingmakes us attempt? Are we to take the lead, or is it natural thatwe are made to take the lead? What is it that makes a beginning”?One person questioned, ‘‘I have two eyes to my spectacles.Which eye indicates the real spectacles?” The Answer is- boththe eyes.The starting point in Yoga has two paths : one the individualconsciousness and the other the universal consciousness or thesoul-light. The spur of the individual consciousness waits untilwe take the lead. In the meanwhile the spur from the other sideis knocking at your door continuously. This is being done fromthe moment of your birth. Even before it has been knockingthrough eternities but it is knocking for you since the time ofyour birth. The knock comes from the presence of theaccomplished ones working on this earth. It is the presence ofthose who have already achieved and attained the soul. Theyare around us everywhere. They are conducting their silent workthrough eternity but they are doing it for you since the time ofyour birth. Water is flowing in the river for a long time, but itflows into the pot when the pot is slanted into the river. Supposethe pin on this table begins to move on its own accord, it indicatesthat there are magnets inside the table. We live in a world where
Lesson - 1 21there are magnets assembled into electro-magnetic units to transmitsoul-light through us, insulated in our bodies. Without insulationthere is no flow of the current. Hence the need of the bodies isthere and we have them from nature.We are always exposed to these magnets, ‘the Mastersof Wisdom’. Though we live in a reacting activity on nonself,though we are exposed to the many temptations in the outerworld we are equally exposed to the presence of the Mastersand their influence is always stronger since they are alreadyseasoned magnets. Be sure, the time comes when you begin torespond to their presence and now the time has come. Theirpresence begins to work in you as you are knowing them andas your recollection of them. They need not take a special noticeof everyone to be recruited as a disciple. A magnet need nottake notice of the presence of every iron particle on the table.It is natural to the iron dust to recollect according to the magneticlines and stand as magnet. Suddenly we begin to respond tothe presence of the great ones. This is how the beginning takesplace. It is a part of the planetary activity since the whole earthis working as a big magnet. The earth has its north pole andsouth pole and its own magnetic lines of force passing throughus. It is rotating on its own axis while the Sun’s apparent pathis working as a spiral around the magnet. The total makes agenerator of what we call ‘Life’. You see how the armature inan induction coil causes electricity. The rotation of the earthcauses day and night and sunrise and sunset which do not existto themselves but they exist to us. The hours and minutes ofthe day and night, when arranged into the programme of workcause the induction required to make you an electro-magnet.Part of the work is produced by the Masters of Wisdom andthe rest is produced as the planetary work of the earth whichis a part of the work of the Solar system. Magnets are used toproduce new magnets. The first cause, the Lord of this Solar
