A regulation ofdiet will establish your relationship with the Devas of the metabolicfunctions. It also includes the regulation of sleep, work andrest. A proper ratio should be maintained between work, restand eating.The next step is purity of sex-life. It is in Yoga practice.To make this possible, our span is divided into four sections,the age of celibacy, the age of monogamy or marrital life, theage when the sex instinct is overlooked and the age of thepreparation for return, Yoga should be practised from thebeginning of the age of celibacy which should be some timebetween the 7th and 8th year counted from the time of fertilization.It must be roughly during the 7th year from birth. Then it shouldcontinue roughly upto the completion of the age of 21 (3 x 7).Purity of sex-life is called Brahmacharya. Celibacy is one ofthe inevitable factor of Yoga practice. Absolute physical andmental purity should be taught to the disciple. Physical puritycan be maintained by controlling sex or total abstinence of sexlifeand sex-thoughts. Mental purity cannot be obtained by this.When the disciple is asked to control his sex-instinct, then hehas to think of it continuously to control it. Beliefs that sex is asin etc. are applied by the religious schools but not by the spiritualschools. Suppression of sex-instinct leads to horribleconsequences and this is known to the modern scientific mind.There is another and equally important point that is not yetknown by the man of science in this century. It is the rightunderstanding of the sex-act and its enjoyment. Nature hasconferred upon the living beings the duty of reproduction. Thisis because nature has given us bodies. It is a legitimate demandof nature from us that we should reproduce and keep up thefunctions of nature.- Preservation of species is expected of us.God appeared many times to the patriarchs and blessed them

That is what the Old Testament says. “Enjoy theseed of the earth, the animal on the ground, the fish in the seaand the bird in the air” is the blessing conferred upon the firstman and woman, “Our Progenitor, the Year-God has createdthe living beings along with the sacramental acts and said, “youmultiply through this”, says Lord Krishna in Bhagavadgita. Tokeep the work going on there should be an incentive to theinstinct of the biological being that are essentially uninitiatedinto the secrets of nature. Nature has bestowed upon the creaturesof the earth, the enjoyment of the sex-act. With this incentive,they co-operate with the work of the Devas quite blindly. Inthe kingdoms other than the human the living beings are rightlyguided by nature without a choice, so that the sex-act is conductedstrictly according to the seasons of fertilization and there is noscope for the beings to transgress. The animal cannot mate outof season. So too the plant.The human being is gifted with the advanced apparatusof knowledge and discrimination. Nature expects of him toknow the values of everything in nature for himself. It also expectsthat man should not mate out of season for the sake of indulgence.In the present stage of human evolution there is a crisis in thehuman behaviour. The average scientist of sex (so called) doesnot know this and he gives only the analysis and the psychologyof sex without knowing the injunctions of nature. The scientistshould know and enlighten the public that the sex-act is not forthe enjoyment, but the enjoyment is a bounty of nature to dothe act of reproduction. The mind should be applied and takenaway to and from the sex-instinct with perfect mastery. Whenit is time for celibacy the disciple should be instructed to engagethe mind in something which is sweeter and more engrossingthan the pleasure of sex. It is neither suppression, nor abstinencefrom, nor a beastly indulgence in sex-pleasure. It is the art ofgrowing passive to it in the light of the active awareness we
