130 Lessons on The Yoga of Patanjaliscriptures 5,000 years ago and we are reading and meditating.When, concepts are received in this stage of awareness theystand in the minds of the public through thousands of years toshow the way. Every professor of Economics is busy with histhousands of plans but they escape into the winds. Karl Marxhad one scheme and it lives now to find the place of manrearranged in society. This is because it was given from theplane of meditation. It is called the craeative plane. All the otherplanes hitherto are only psychological and supra-psychologicalbut not creative. Thoughts come anad go in those planes butconcepts received on the creative plane will go on creatingfollowers among the people. Concepts take flesh and blood inthe form of ourselves. They belong to the category of “Theword made flesh”.(8) The next step is called Attainment (Samadhi) Whenthe concept stands in time it is called meditation. Whey you,the observer, disappear into it, it is called Attainment. I call itattainment not because you have attained the required thing,but because it has attained you. The goal reached you whileyou made the attempt. When you are engaged in seeing a cinemain the T. V. all these steps take place automatically. At first youbegin to see it. After a little while you do not exist and henceyou do not remember that you are seeing the picture. The pictureexists. If you are not there in the room and the picture is runningin the T. V. in an empty room, then the picture does not exist.Existence is to someone else to get that someone absorbed.God exists to us because He wants us to get absorbed in HIM,to get contemplated, to go into meditation and to be attainedby HIM finally. If it were not for this purpose the creation wouldnot have existed at all. God might have existed to Himself andhe would have been a non-entity since He sleeps. Similarly thecinema in the T. V. exists to you and you get lost in it. Many
Lesson - 7 131times you have undergone this process while seeing an interestingcinema, but what we now do in Yoga is to make the processregular and try to get at mastery of the process through whichwe are attained by God. Then we have reached God. So, inyour meditation (your creative consciousness) if you cease toexist then it is called Attainment or Samadhi.After repeated practice of the above eight steps yourvehicles become perfect, your illumination shines forth throughall the vehicles. Your existence will be like a hall with manypowerful lights in different, harmonious colours. Whathappens when the one flood of light meets another in thehall? There is a new blend, a simultaneous existence. Arepeated practice of the eight steps will cause the simultaneousexistence of the last three steps, contemplation, meditationand attainment. Then it is called “Simultaneous Existence”(Samyama). In fact, the word “Samyama” means masterywhich is masterhood. “When the three states exist it isSamyama” says Patanjali. “Simultaneity of existence inall planes is Yoga” Says Master C. V. V.We have theoretically covered the whole syllabus ofthe ‘eight steps of Yoga’. There are some more things whichPatanjali wants to supplement. We have matter for two moreclasses. We have also two more days to have classes in ourprogram at Geneva.
